With flu season here, the Health Center is holding its annual flu-shot clinic.

The shots will be available in the Health Center on Wednesday, September 26, from 10 a.m.-noon, on Thursday, September 27, from 3-5 p.m., and on Monday, October 1, from 1-3 p.m.

Mobile shot units will travel across campus on Thursday, September 27, from 3-5 p.m., and Monday, October 1, from 1-3 p.m.

Shots are free for students, and $10 for staff (cash or check only). They are available on a first-come, first-served basis while the supply of shots lasts.

NOCCCD Trustee Donna Miller and Student Trustee Alie McCaskill discuss voter registration.

Cypress College's Associated Students and the League of Women Voters of North Orange County are working through a grant-funded partnership to increase voter registration in advance of November's local, state, and national elections.

"Registration is the first step for being an informed voter," said Kay Bruce, a former Cypress College dean, who is facilitating the grant for the League of Women Voters. "This is a chance for people to be heard."

The registration event will take place at Cypress College on September 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It is tied to National Voter Registration Day, which also takes place on September 25.

The League is also sponsoring a Cypress City Council candidates' forum on October 17. It will be held in HUM-131, at 6:30 p.m.

Bruce stressed that the LWV offers "no advocacy, just nonpartisan information."

On Friday, September 21, 2012, space shuttle Endeavour flew over Cypress College as part of a tour over several Southern California landmarks enroute to its retirement home at the California Science Center.

Endeavour and its carrier 747 aircraft flew over Long Beach, Huntington Beach, and Disneyland — all visible from campus — before entering the approach path for Los Angeles International Airport.

Also of local note, the pilots of the F-18 chase planes (seen in this image below), particpated in training for this mission with Cypress College aviation instructor, Ed Valdez (as part of his professional duties unrelated to the college).

Cypress College's Political Science Department and the Political Science Club are hosting a Constitution Day event on Monday, September 17, 2012.

Faculty Peter Mathews and Gloria Badal will explore the topic "Obamacare: Is it Constitutional?"

The event is open and free to the campus community and the public. It takes place on Monday, September 17, from 2:30-3:15 p.m., in Humanities 131.

The deadline to add and drop courses has been extended two days to accommodate students who attempted to make the changes online on Sunday, when MyGateway experienced an outage.

Students who wish to either add or drop a semester-length course must do so in person at the Admissions and Records Office. Students who do so prior to 6 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, September 11, 2012) will meet the requirements of the previously published Sunday deadline.

Instructors of semester length-course, who desired to make changes to their course rosters, will also be accommodated at Admissions and Records.

The Admissions and Records Office office is located on the first floor of the Student Center. Requests for this accommodation must be made in person, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., either today or tomorrow.

The deadlines for classes that meet less than the full length of the semester are printed along with the course entry in the Schedule of Classes.

The two-week grace period for parking ends this weekend — with Campus Safety beginning enforcement of parking permits on Monday, September 10, 2012.

Students may park in areas designated "student parking" with a valid student parking permit is required beginning September 10, 2012.

The college parking regulations are available online and in the Campus Safety office. Campus Safety is located in the Business Building, adjacent to Lot 1.

Attention Aid Recipients:

The Cypress College Financial Aid Office calculates your disbursement based on the number of units in which you are enrolled on the LAST DAY to ADD CLASSES (The Fall 2012 deadline to add is September 9, 2012).

You MUST BE OFFICIALLY ENROLLED to receive financial aid (not waitlisted, not waiting for add codes or petitioning late-start classes, etc.). There are no exceptions to this rule for financial aid at Cypress College. YOUR FALL DISBURSEMENT WILL BE BASED ON YOUR ENROLLMENT AS OF SEPTEMBER 10, 2012.

Federal Pell Grant disbursements for students enrolled in less than 12 units will be adjusted automatically. Most financial aid programs at Cypress College require you to attend school at least half-time (6 units) to receive aid. If you apply for financial aid or complete your financial aid file after the last day to add classes your disbursement will be based on your enrollment at the time we receive your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), receive your completed forms to complete your file, and after a Financial Aid Technician reviews your file and determines your eligibility.

On Friday, August 24, 2012, the Board of Trustees of the North Orange County Community College District and Chancellor Dr. Ned Doffoney hosted an investiture ceremony for Dr. Bob Simpson, who was named Cypress College's 11th president in July. During the ceremony, Dr. Simpson was presented with his charge as president of the college.
