Two Campus Basketball Records Broken by Gonzalez

Sophomore David Gonzalez scored 50 points, including 36 on three-point shots, to break two Cypress College mens basketball records this past weekend — single-game points (formerly 44) and three-point baskets (formerly 8). The records were set at the San Diego Mesa Tournament.

You can read more about Gonzalez’s record-setting performance on the Chargers athletics website.

myGateway Back Online Through Dec. 29

The myGateway portal is back online as of this morning. The new server setup requires a change in the domain name server, which can take up to 24 hours to complete before all users can connect to the site.

myGateway is scheduled to stay online until Sunday, December 29, when additional server and database maintenance is scheduled (see below).

The mygatewaynocccd Twitter feed will be updated with changes to the status of the system, staff said late this afternoon.

Here is the timeline for the remaining system work:

  • Sunday 12/29/2013 – Monday 12/30/2013 for server maintenance; all systems will be unavailable including myGateway, Banner, and Blackboard.
  • Saturday 1/4/2014 – Sunday 1/5/2014 for an Oracle upgrade; myGateway and Banner will be unavailable.
These upgrades are critical to maintaining as well as improving the stability and performance of our systems for students and staff.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

myGateway Outage Likely to Extend to Month’s End

Maintenance work on the myGateway portal has progressed much more slowly than the IT staff in the North Orange County Community College District had hoped or anticipated — and it now looks like myGatwway won’t be back in service until December 30.

Originally slated to be back online tonight, the work now looks like it will extend through December 29, when a new set of maintenance procedures across a number of systems will begin.

We’ll add our apologies for the inconvenience as well. I know many of you are waiting on grades and excited to see them. Given the heavy demand on the system at the start of the semester, this is important work to complete.

Campus Closed for Winter Break Through Jan. 1, 2014

Cypress College is closed for its annual winter break period. The campus will re-open on Thursday, January 2, 2014.

The free online admissions application is available on the campus website at http://www.cypresscollege.edu.

During the break, this blog and the college’s social media sites will be updated with important information as necessary. The myGateway student portal will undergo maintenance at various points during the break and will be unavailable for substantial periods of time.

On behalf of all of us here at Cypress College, we wish you peace, joy, and a happy holiday season.

Power Outage Closes Student Center

Please note updates below.

It seems our electricity has begun the holiday early.

Parts of the campus — including the Student Center — are currently without power. Before coming to campus to take care of business, please check back with us. We anticipate an update at about 10:15 or so, though restoration of power will likely be later than that.

Update: As of 10:15 a.m., the vendor is on site and working to diagnose the problem. That process should be completed some time about 11 a.m. and we will know then whether or not we can anticipate a restoration of power quickly or if it will be a longer-duration issue.

The big concern, of course, relates to student services since this is the final day before the campus closes for winter break. Admissions and Records, Counseling and other services in our Student Center are offline because of the outage. We have already elected to suspend drops for non payment of registration fees for today — so, that’s one less thing for students to be concerned about.

We will keep you posted. Our next update should come before noon. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience.

Update: As of 12:42 p.m., we have elected to close the buildings affected by the power outage. From a student perspective, that means the following services are unavailable: Admissions and Records, Bursar, Counseling, Career Center, and the Assessment Center.

Services in the Cypress College Complex — including Financial Aid, EOPS, and DSP&S are not impacted and will remain open until 5 p.m. today.

With myGateway also offline (for maintenance) and not expected to be available until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, we have also decided to suspend processing of drops for those students who haven’t yet paid their fees. We will not run this process again until we return on January 2, 2014.

Fall 2013 Grades Due Jan. 7

Fall grades are due to be submitted by faculty before Wednesday, January 8, 2014. This is an extension to the original deadline because of myGateway being unavailable several days in December and January.

Most students can expect to see grades posted in advance of this deadline.

Grades are first submitted by faculty and then, once a grade is entered for each student in the class, processed for posting in myGateway by the Admissions and Records Office.

Students can expect processing of grades to continue on Monday, December 23. No processing or posting of grades will take place during the winter break, from Tuesday, December 24, 2013 through Wednesday, January 1, 2014.  Posting of grades will resume when the campus re-opens on January 2.

myGateway, Blackboard Outages Upcoming

The staff in the Information Technology office here in the North Orange County Community College District passed along the following note about upcoming system work that will result in outages for both myGateway and Blackboard:

Information Services will be performing scheduled maintenance on the following dates:
  • Friday 12/20/2013 – Monday 12/23/2013 for a myGateway upgrade; myGateway will be unavailable.
